SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: How to Style Your SKCreations Infinity Scarf

I recently had a customer purchase one of my Maxi Skirts in my Zig design, and when she received it she asked if I had an Infinity Scarf to match.  Although I'd made many scarves, I hadn't considered doing one in Zig.  I did one especially for her, and when it was finished I realized how much I liked it so I made one for myself and decided to make the design available in my online store.  I also decided it would be a great choice to showcase the various ways the scarves can be styled:

Draped Loosely Around the Neck

Doubled Around the Neck
High on the Neck and Draped

As a Shrug, Secured with a Pin or Brooch

You can also pair the scarf with a Maxi Skirt.

So you see there is a lot of versatility with these scarves.  I even had a customer tell me that she was going to try to use it as a head wrap.  I haven't tried that myself, but you can get as creative as you like.  To see the complete collection, please visit the SKCreations, LLC online boutique.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: New Poncho Tops

I recently completed a new surface design collection, titled Kindred.  There are three designs in the collection, each with a different color palette and design layout.  I decided to have the designs printed onto a super soft organic cotton knit fabric, which is perfect for my new Poncho Tops.

Kindred I Poncho Top

Kindred II Poncho Top

Kindred III Poncho Top

The tops are light in weight and very comfortable, and the unique design features a shorter back to create a shawl effect from behind.

They're just right for guarding against that chill in the air, and they're now available in the SKCreations, LLC online boutique.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Kindred I

I've been working on some new surface designs, and I recently had the first of them printed onto fabric.  The name of the design is Kindred I, and it has a tribal and ethnic theme.  It's simple but the symbols are bold, and I decided to have it printed onto a very soft and wonderful organic cotton interlock knit fabric.  I'm so pleased with the result.  It really captures the essence of what I was going for.  I can't wait to start working with it.  For now, here's a peek:

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Customer Testimonial

I love my customers, and I love when I can share their feedback about my products.  Here is a customer testimonial for our Custom Tote Bag:

"I am loving my new tote!  It's stylish yet practical.  Weekdays, it serves as my companion for carrying lunch, snacks and miscellaneous to-do items.  Weekends, it's been neat for bringing along copies of my new book and promotional items when I visit retail venues.   It's light in weight, flexible in use, and it looks great!  Love it!"

I am truly thankful for her patronage, and I can testify that her book is a must-read full of timeless wisdom!

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Retropolis

I've created many surface design collections, but Retropolis is one of my favorites.  Every time I look at it I think of products that would be great for it.  The designs all have a retro/futuristic theme, which is almost contradictory, but it just seems to work.  Recently, I decided to have Retropolis 5 and 7 printed onto linen cotton canvas.  I'm thrilled with the results.  New projects coming soon!

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Calypso I

My newest surface design is titled Calypso I.  I have visited many parts of the West Indies, and calypso music is an original theme that flows through their culture.  It's usually very lively, and the sound puts me in a festive mood and makes me want to dance.  It is the inspiration for my new design, which I had printed onto linen cotton canvas fabric.  I'm looking forward to working with this fun design!

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: New Fabric!

I am sooo excited!  My new fabric has arrived!  I had three of my surface designs, In Black and White, Who Spilled the Beans and Stained Glass Mosaic, printed onto linen cotton canvas, and I love the way they turned out.  They will work perfectly for a few upcoming projects that I can't wait to start.  It's so funny to be anxious to put scissors to something that looks so good in one piece, but I'm sure the finished products will please me even more.  Stay tuned!

Where Have They Gone?

Recently, I have had several inquiries about the products I created and sold over the last several years, which many came to associate with SKCreations, LLC.  To name a few, people are looking for my Eye Glam eyeglass cases, Glam Girl bags, and my popular Lil' Somethin' Somethin' Bags.

If you've checked out my new SKCreations website, you noticed they aren't there.  That is because I am discontinuing these items.  In redefining SKCreations, my focus is on products that feature my original designs and fabrics, rather than products made from fabrics designed by someone else.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all the fabrics I've collected from every corner of the world over the years, and I made some cherished products from them, but the time has come to expand my brand in new and exciting ways.  I may start producing lines similar to the old ones in the future, but if I do they will be crafted from my fabrics exclusively.  For now though, I do have a dwindling inventory of the old products on hand, and they are all on sale.  So, if you're interested in getting something before they're gone, send me an email at info@skcreations.com and we'll make it happen.  Onward and upward!

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Wiggles I

My latest collection of surface designs is called Wiggles.  I considered calling it Squiggles, but either one works since it's a collection of shapes in wavy and squiggly lines that basically represent how I was feeling at the time I was creating the designs.  Sometimes I just need to let loose and go whichever way the flow takes me.  At times I like the results well enough to move forward with them, and sometimes I scratch them.  I'm actually quite happy with the way this turned out, and I've included the "SK" initials in the design indicating that it is an SKCreations Limited Edition.  You can view other color palettes on the SKCreations website.

These are pics of Wiggles I.  My design is on the left, and on the right it's printed on a wonderfully soft and stretchy jersey fabric.  I see a new sewing project in my future.

The Gambia: Batiks

On my recent trip to The Gambia, West Africa, we visited an area where they made Batik fabric.  I've always loved batiks from Africa and Bali, Indonesia, and I've purchased a lot over the years, but I had never seen the actual process.  We were in for a real treat since they gave us a chance to see some of these beautiful works being created.  After the presentation we had the opportunity to purchase some of the finished products.  The selection was overwhelming to say the least.  Were it not for the fact that I'd have to pay to get all of them back to the U.S., and that I surely would have blown my travel budget, I definitely would have loaded up.  I've never seen so many varied and beautiful batiks in one place before.  As a certified fabric fiend the best way I can describe it is, awesome.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Pantone Jazz

When Pantone, the authority on color, announced their Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2013, I fell in love with the color palette.  I decided to put my own spin on it by creating a design that used those colors or some that were a close match.  The result was my original surface design titled Pantone Jazz.  I had my design digitally printed on fabric, then used it to create my favorite roomy tote bag.  I've included this design in my All That Jazz collection since I created geometric shapes in various sizes and color combinations and placed them vertically and horizontally, which I feel is a very jazzy and rhythmic layout if I might say so myself.  I used a fuchsia duck cloth to make the lining so the bag really pops.  Makes me want to snap my fingers.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's Valentine's Day or, as some say, National Love Day.  I personally think it was designed to find a way to get consumers to pony up money for gifts during the slow retail month of February.  We've probably recovered from the holiday season spending and the January clearance sales.  Spring is more than a month away and, honestly, it's too cold for people to think about buying warm weather gear right now, especially if you're on the East Coast (brrrr).  So, what to do in February?  Buy flowers, chocolate, jewelry and whatever else is deemed appropriate to celebrate the day.  If it brings a smile to a dear one's face, go for it.  Don't make it all about February 14th however.  Show your love and appreciation for others throughout the year.  I believe it can make the world a better place.

I have created an original surface design collection titled "LOVE".  The various font styles I used in the design depict the many ways in which we can feel and express love, not only for others but for ourselves.  My collection includes fabric, from which I have crafted a roomy tote bag.  It also includes note cards which are blank inside so you can write a personal note.  These products are available for purchase.  For inquiries, please email me at info@skcreations.com.
