Do you carry a log of "stuff" everyday?  I do.  No matter how hard I try to pare down, my bags still tend to be overstuffed.  I don't really need everything I carry everywhere I go but I don't want to be caught without something, which has happened from time to time.  What to do?  Well, the answer for me is a handy tote bag.  It's a great solution because it will fit all those "extras" that I only might need, and it'll also accommodate a purse if I want to bring one along to use separately for some other activity.  It's a win-win.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: In Black and White

No matter who you are, you probably have black go-to pieces in your wardrobe.  It's practically a necessity.  There are many reasons people wear black.  It can be for the slimming effect or simply because it's cool or chic.  Of course, basic black goes with just about everything, but it's usually paired with white for a classic look.

My latest custom tote bag was crafted from fabric printed with my surface design, In Black and White.  The design includes geometric shapes with clean lines.  The lining is all black, and the bag will complement almost any style.  It's sure to become your go-to accessory too.  Available now in the SKCreations online boutique.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Who Spilled the Beans?

I love beans.  There probably isn't a week that goes by when I don't have them.  I'm a big fan of kidney beans, black beans, lima beans, navy beans and garbanzo beans, and there are others that get thrown into the mix from time to time.  They are a great source of protein, and since I don't eat red meat, and have chicken and fish only once in awhile, they're really a staple for me. 

My surface design, Who Spilled the Beans, is an ode to these legumes, and since I did get a bit carried away while creating the design, it ended up looking like someone just spilled out a container full.  Hence the name.

I recently had the design printed onto a linen cotton canvas fabric, and used the fabric to create this custom tote bag.  The lining is a complementary olive green duck cloth canvas fabric.  I think it's a fun and unique design, and sure to be a conversation starter.  Order yours in the SKCreations online boutique.

It's countdown to Spring!  Now that Daylight Saving Time has begun, there's light at the end of the tunnel.  I'm looking forward to warmer days, lighter clothing and brighter colors all around, and I can't wait to break out my new custom tote bags to enhance those warm weather outfits.  They're roomy enough for all the daily essentials, and sturdy enough to weather all the fun.  They're machine washable too!  You can get yours in the SKCreations, LLC online boutique.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: All About the Heart

February is here, which means that Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  I remember when I was in elementary school and we used to get the packages of those little Valentine's Day cards that were about the size of a Post-It Note.  There were enough in the package to give one to all of the kids in your class, if you wanted to anyway.  If you were lucky, you might even get some of those cute little candy hearts with the sweet sayings printed on them.  Who didn't love those?

Speaking of love, my collection of surface designs titled "LOVE" is all about celebrating the feeling of love that we have for ourselves, for others and for life in general, which is why I have used a variety of fonts and sizes in the design to represent the various ways in which we love.  The products available in the collection include 5" x 7" note cards that are blank inside, which are great for sending a personalized note to someone special.  The cards can be purchased singly or in a set of four.

There's also a custom tote bag that I crafted from a sophisticated linen-cotton canvas fabric on which my design was digitally printed.  The roomy tote is lined with a tightly woven, durable duck cloth in lipstick red, and has two interior slip pockets.  The bag is not only stylish, but functional enough to use everyday.

To Market, To Market

When you go grocery shopping, what type of bag do you use?  Plastic bags are always available at the stores I frequent, and occasionally they offer paper bags, but the biggest trend these days is to bring your own reusable shopping bag.  Although many of these are also plastic, the benefit is that you're not throwing it away and adding to the tremendous volume of plastic garbage that exists in our world (learn more here).  Of course there is the issue of these bags becoming very nasty and germ-ridden over time, which is just disgusting to think about, and that may ultimately lead you to throw it away.  I think a better alternative is a cotton bag.  They're not only environmentally safe, but machine washable too.  Also, if they're cute enough, you might use them not only for shopping trips but for other occasions as well.

Introducing the Naturally ME Tote Bag.  Our Naturally ME series celebrates Black women who rock their natural hair.  Our original surface design was digitally printed onto a sophisticated Linen Cotton Canvas then used to create the outer fabric for this roomy tote bag.  The interior is constructed from a nutmeg colored durable duck cloth, and has two pockets and a base insert.

My Retropolis surface design collection features my artwork that has both Retro and Futuristic themes.  Sort of like the Seventies meets the Jetsons.  Here is Retropolis 3, digitally printed on Linen Cotton Canvas and used for wearable art in a roomy tote bag, with a pop of bright orange inside.  We're ready for Spring!

When Pantone, the authority on color, announced their Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2013, I fell in love with the color palette.  I decided to put my own spin on it by creating a design that used those colors or some that were a close match.  The result was my original surface design titled Pantone Jazz.  I had my design digitally printed on fabric, then used it to create my favorite roomy tote bag.  I've included this design in my All That Jazz collection since I created geometric shapes in various sizes and color combinations and placed them vertically and horizontally, which I feel is a very jazzy and rhythmic layout if I might say so myself.  I used a fuchsia duck cloth to make the lining so the bag really pops.  Makes me want to snap my fingers.

It's Valentine's Day or, as some say, National Love Day.  I personally think it was designed to find a way to get consumers to pony up money for gifts during the slow retail month of February.  We've probably recovered from the holiday season spending and the January clearance sales.  Spring is more than a month away and, honestly, it's too cold for people to think about buying warm weather gear right now, especially if you're on the East Coast (brrrr).  So, what to do in February?  Buy flowers, chocolate, jewelry and whatever else is deemed appropriate to celebrate the day.  If it brings a smile to a dear one's face, go for it.  Don't make it all about February 14th however.  Show your love and appreciation for others throughout the year.  I believe it can make the world a better place.
