Amazulu Living Room

Don't miss the second weekend of the grand opening of the Amazulu Living Room, located at 1529 Reed Street, Philadelphia, PA.  It is wonderful in so many ways... the space, the clothing, the jewelry, the art, the culture, the people and the energy.  I truly enjoyed my visit last weekend, and I will definitely be returning.  The owner, Charita Powell, is such a wonderful spirit, and I am so happy for her and her newest venture.  I know she will do well there.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Peace

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the word "peace".  It's a small word with such a huge meaning.  It encompasses a lack of conflict and unrest, as well as harmony, quiet and a state of mind.  Don't we all long for that?  It is even commonly used as a greeting.  The symbol for peace is universal, and has spanned generations.

I've created a design, titled Peace, that represents the positivity of this word.  Specifically, when we have peace of mind we feel lighter, happier and better overall.  When I completed the design it brought a smile to my face, as it captures the joyful tone I intended for it to project.  I had the design printed onto the popular modern jersey fabric, and used it to create The Shay Maxi Skirt/Tube Dress and the Bella Skirt.  When you wear these items, you're sure to feel happier too.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: SHOES Note Cards

Are you a shoe junkie?  Go on, admit it.  Many of us are.  Own it with these SHOES... Food for the SOLE! My new UNITY designs are available not only on t-shirts and bags, but also note cards.  In addition to selling them in the SKCreations online boutique, they're also available at the Brentwood Arts Exchange at the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood, MD.  On one of my recent visits there, I was told that a woman had purchased one of the cards to give to a co-worker who she had really rubbed the wrong way.  She didn't share what she had done, but she was very hopeful that the UNITY card, along with a written apology, would result in forgiveness by the person she had angered.  I hope it helped.  Even if you don't have to apologize to someone, these cards can be very handy to have around to be used for any unforeseen occasion.  You can purchase them separately, or you can get the set of six which includes two of each of the three designs, and a reusable drawstring pouch.  For more information, click here to visit the shop.

The third design in the UNITY series is titled commUNITY.  We don't have to travel far to help others.  We can spread a little love right in our own communities.  For example, whenever I go to the bank the tellers always ask how I'm doing.  When I respond I ask how they are in return, and more times than not they seem surprised by the question and thank me for asking.  I get the impression they don't hear that very often from customers, and it makes me feel good to put a smile on their face and maybe brighten their day.  It certainly makes me feel good, and a little kindness can go a long way.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Naturally ME Noir - Special Edition

I have been thrilled by the response I've received on my Naturally ME surface designs.  It is a passion project for me so it's icing on the cake when customers tell me how much they love it.  There were a couple of inquiries about whether I would offer the t-shirts in black as well as in white, and the idea really appealed to me.  Black is bold and chic, and who doesn't love a black tee?  I decided to do it but I'd make it different than the original design, and it would be a Special Edition.  I set out on creating eight new designs of women with natural hairstyles, which would be shown exclusively on the black background.  Here is the finished product, Naturally ME Noir (that's black in French if anyone asks).  Unlike the original Naturally ME design, the individual hairstyles on the Noir tees will not be available separately.

There are two versions of the design: one with a red border like the one on the white tee, and one with a white border.  Why did I do two?  I just couldn't decide which I liked best, so why not have both?  The tees are now available in the SKCreations Online Boutique.

 

Also, as with all of the Naturally ME tees, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the Naturally ME Noir tees will be donated to Covenant House, the largest privately-funded childcare agency in the country providing shelter and service to homeless and runaway youth.

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Wiggles I Infinity Scarf

Don't you just love a scarf?  I own too many to count and I am always looking for more.  They're just a great way to add that extra touch to an outfit, even if you're wearing a simple white top.  I think they're wonderful accessories, and a must-have for any fashionista's wardrobe.

I've created a new Infinity Scarf from a soft and stretchy modern jersey fabric that has the print of my newest surface design, Wiggles I.  The colors are very cheerful, and the scarf can be matched up with so many looks.  Want one for yourself?  They're available in the SKCreations Online Boutique!

SKCreations, LLC Surface Design: Naturally ME Note Cards

I am a card girl.  Perhaps it's a bit old school, but I have a real love for a thoughtful greeting card or a card with a handwritten note.  It's such a small thing to do but it can make a huge impact on someone's day.  To me, it shows that you cared enough to take the time to choose a card that reflects how you feel about someone, which I find very meaningful, particularly in this fast-paced age of technology.

I have always been a regular customer at my local Hallmark stores; so much so that I am a Platinum Crown Rewards Member.  I have a list of monthly birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions to acknowledge, so it's rare that I purchase fewer than three cards at one time.  I also love art cards.  I've accumulated a cache of these from artists over the years.  It's an inexpensive way to have a piece of beautiful work by an artist, especially if I'm not able to purchase the actual artwork.  I've even framed some of these cards.

Oftentimes I make note cards displaying some of my artwork.  Others who have purchased them have told me that they really value them and have a hard time giving them to others because they don't want to part with them.  What a wonderful compliment!  In keeping with this practice I have created note cards for my Naturally ME series.  The cards measure 5" x 7", are blank inside and come with a white envelope.  There are nine total, one each representing the individual hairstyles and the primary design which combines them all.  They're available in the SKCreations Online Boutique.  You can purchase them singly or at a savings when you purchase the set of nine.  I've created a reusable drawstring pouch to complete the set.  Fabric selections for the pouch may vary.
